Im an avid Firefox user, its better than most other browsers I have used and I love the fact that the extensions are east to install and use. One that really does it for me is AdBlock, http://adblock.mozdev.org/, It allows you to block picture ads, you can do wildcard URL blocks, eg *pagead2* and even those evil text based, iFrame embedded ads!
Go AdBlock! ![]()

Well, I am back to work for a few days, its a Thursday, probably a fair to middlin’ kinda day. I have been setting up an old laptop for my mother-in-law so she may use dial up but its been nothing but hassles I can tell you. I had a real strange error retrieving email, she has 2 email in her POP box and it would download one then part of the second and then would report the remote host timed out but it was immediate.
I ended up deleting the mail account and re creating it a few times and finally it was all okay. Something odd going on there so I will have to treat that one with kid gloves. Ive been logged on the phone’s for 8 minutes now and nothings happening, I do think that someone has to be in the office to turn on the switchboard and as yet no one is there, makes for a quieter morning.

I was looking at some other blogs out there on blogger.com and Wow, some really good blogs, alot of them take months to load and chew bandwidth up and eat my CPU cycles but in 10 years the internet will be able to cope with such beasts.

Im at work now, filling in because of absences, dentist later, I have a dentist who is extremely fun to be at, thats just wrong but so true, I am laying there in the chair laughing my head off the best I can with a drill mining for nerves. Laughing and being in pain is a very strange combination.

I used to use Livejournal for my Blog but its a little inflexible for me unfortunately, the fact that blogger.com puts the html file in your own ftp space is alot nicer, if you want to see the sad individual that I used to be and the pathetic life I lead before the year 2005 compared to the wonderfully glorious life I live now go here
I also have so many other web presences it hurts, I will try and list some of them here….
… Of course there is Eternal Summertime, at the time of typing this hosted on Telus webspace.
Then there is my 3 Islandnet webspaces. rt@Islandnet, rt@islandhosting and rt@highspeedplus, I work at Islandnet and get unlinited webspace because of this fact.
They are in different stages of use so if you get a 404 dont be surprised. I actually want to move my entire main site to IslandHosting and but a domain name so thats a 2005 to-do.
I have my old mcmail space which is now run by Bluebolt in the UK, I still keep it active just as a dump space. I called it Pantaloons way back when.
A little execise to see where I have been online is to click these searches (and try some of your own), actually quite a fun thing to do with email in your address books, you can learn allot about people you thought you knew, I use AllTheWeb to do my searches:
ATW Search for “rob_turner@hotmail.com”
ATW Search for “rob_j_turner@msn.com”
ATW Search for “Eternal Summertime”
The last one finds some stuff that isnt mine but it also finds my little Webshots area with some photo’s I published, it finds my old freeuk webpages that are still there even thought I dont have an account with them and have tried so many times to get them removed, it finds my pantaloons mcmail webspace as the Eternal Summertime page used to be hosted there, its amazing what you can find out about one person by digging around online.
I used to be quite liberal online with my email address and now they are out there on the web I am quite a SPAM target on the old accounts,
One thing I have found is that by keeping my email accounts that go back 10 years open I use them as POP accounts in my yahoo email to train it to block spam comming into my yahoo emails.
See what else you can dig up on me and comment on this blog telling me what you found and provide a link

Well, I just signed up for Google’s AdSense, Apparently you get paid for people who go to your site and then click on an ad, as long as it is not intrusive and degrade my site. (I have invasive ads) I am willing to get paid for having a website. Shannon, my colleage runs a free electronic music site and from ads on that site he supplements his imcome a little.
Nice to get an occasional cheque in the mail for doing something you love.
